Ethereum infrastructure provider Infura owned by ConsenSys will now collect users' IP and Ethereum addresses when they send transactions using MetaMask.

According to ConsenSys' updated privacy policy, if users run their own Ethereum node or a third party RPC provider with MetaMask, then "neither Infura nor MetaMask" will collect their data.

However, the company noted that users' information "will be subject to whatever information collection performed by the RPC provider you are using and their terms regarding such collection."

MetaMask to Help Scam Victims with Tracking Stolen Funds

The move comes after Uniswap Labs revealed that its exchange protocol Uniswap is storing user-related data such as device type and browser version to make "data-driven decisions that improve user experience."

While the firm declined to disclose the full list of data, which Uniswap collets from users, Uniswap Labs noted it doesn't store any personal data like first name, last name, street address, date of birth, email address, or IP address. The firm reassured users it doesn't share data "with any third parties for marketing purposes."
